Great Ways To Celebrate The 4th Of July On Kauai – Fireworks, Popular Events & More

The 4th of July is one of our favorite times of the year; when we proudly celebrate our country’s independence – a great time to get together with friends and family, eat some great food, drink some cold drinks, and appreciate all that our country has and is.

Wondering where you should celebrate the 4th of July on Kauai this year? You can celebrate at local beaches with sparklers and picnics, or opt to celebrate with a whole bunch of people at great community events. There are a couple of places to choose from. Below are our best recommendations, so you can be sure to have some good food, a great fireworks show, and just plain old fun.

1. America’s Most West Freedom Fest

This event will be held at the Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands on Kauai’s West Side. It is open to the public and costs nothing to attend. There will be a 17-minute fireworks show as well as food, live entertainment, games, rides, and craft booths.

Requirements to Attend

You are not allowed to bring any outside food, drinks, coolers, pets, weapons (absolutely no kind of knives allowed), or drugs. Also, you are not allowed to bring any personal fireworks on base. Adults 18+ need to have a valid photo ID with them.

Directions

Enter the base just before mile marker 29 off of Kaumualii Highway through the south gate entrance. Follow the signs posted for the event and look for security, who will be directing traffic. Parking is free on base, however, all vehicles will be subject to search.

2. The 25th Annual Concert In The Sky

The Kauai Hospice is putting on their annual Concert in the Sky event. This is going to be an exciting event for the whole family. Join them for a night full of delicious food, live music, keiki games, and more. By far the largest fireworks show on Kauai, this is sure to be a fun-filled place to spend the evening. It’s a great show and supports a great cause.

Admission

You can purchase tickets in advance for a better price, or you can buy them at the gate. Tickets are currently available online, or you can purchase them at all Times/Big Save Markets and at the Kauai Hospice office from July 1-3.

Adults: $10.00 in advance, $15.00 at the gate
Kids (6-12): $5.00 in advance, $7.00 at the gate
Children 5 & Under: Free

3. DIY – Kauai Fireworks Permits

The Kauai County Fire Department is the place to go to get firecracker permits if you are wanting to celebrate the 4th of July on your own. Permits need to be obtained by Thursday, July 3 and are necessary if you plan on purchasing or igniting fireworks on the 4th of July. You are only allowed to ignite firecrackers on private property from 1:00-9:00 PM, July 4.

Cost: $25 each
Good For: 5,000 non-aerial individual firecracker units

You can buy as many permits as you would like; however, you must be at least 18 years old.

Costco has a great selection of fireworks if you plan on doing it yourself

What are the Rules for Celebrating the 4th of July on Kauai?

It is important to know and follow all of Kauai’s rules and laws for using fireworks. Only licensed pyro-technicians with appropriate permits are allowed to set off aerial fireworks. Also, keep in mind that it is “unlawful to buy, sell, use, ignite, or cause to ignite Aerial Luminary Devices (also known as flying lanterns or flying luminaries).”

Fireworks that are okay to use without a permit include:

• snakes
• sparklers
• fountains
• cylindrical or cone fountains
• whistles
• toy smoke devices
• wheels and ground spinners
• other similar products
