Kauai is blessed with consistently great weather all year round, but there are some activities that are best enjoyed in the summer. The summer months bring drier weather and different ocean conditions.
Discover the beauty of Kauai through its many great outdoor activities
Some of Kauai’s most popular summer activities include:
- Snorkeling
- Kayaking
- Fishing
- Hiking
1. Snorkeling
Tunnels Beach & Kee Beach are highly recommended places to snorkel
If you are planning on doing some snorkeling while visiting the island, know it is best to go in the summer time. This is due to calmer waters, sunnier skies, and an abundance of colorful fish. When the sky is clear and the weather is warm, fish are easier to see – and the water is more enjoyable. The best part about this activity is that it is affordable, educational, and a one-of-a-kind experience – not to mention almost every age group can join in. Hawaii offers some of the best snorkeling in the world, so be sure to consider spending some time in the water while you’re on island.
2. Kayaking
The Napali Coast and the Wailua River are highly recommended places to kayak
Kayaking is another fun activity to do in the summertime. Kayak up rivers, under waterfalls, and even on the open ocean. While you can kayak up rivers whenever you want to, ocean kayaking is best enjoyed on calmer days. There are plenty of places to explore by kayak and it’s an activity that can accommodate large groups.
Exploring the Napali Coast is always a good way to spend the day
3. Fishing
Kauai offers some great deep-sea fishing in the summer. Warmer water attracts all sorts of game fish that are fun to catch and even better to eat. During the summer months yellowfin tuna, or ahi, migrate to Hawaii’s waters to breed, which provides a great opportunity for anglers to try and catch one of these prized fish. Marlin, ono, and mahimahi can also be caught in summer, making this the best time to book a fishing charter. The fish are out there, good times are waiting, and the views just top off the experience.

4. Hiking
The Napali Coast (advanced) and the Sleeping Giant are recommended hiking trails
The summer months are the best time to hit the trails mainly because they’re dry and less likely to have flooding. Endless sunshine allows you to see further, and highlights the mountains and various island landscapes. Each side of the island has great hiking trails, each with different terrains and incredible views. There is a hiking trail for every skill level, so make sure you add hiking to your to-do list.
Many of Kauai’s hiking trails, including Hanakapiai Trail, have incredible ocean views
