HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Six people were injured, including two critically and two seriously, following a three-car crash on the H-1 Freeway during the Thursday morning townbound commute.

The incident happened around 10:20 a.m. in the Makiki area.

According to Honolulu police, a 49-year-old adult male driver was traveling eastbound in the right lane of the H-1 Freeway when he collided with a second vehicle with four occupants.

Subsequently, the second vehicle plowed into a third vehicle that police say appeared to be having tire trouble and was slowing in traffic before any of the crashes occurred. The third vehicle had a two occupants.

According to EMS, paramedics treated one man and five women with various injuries.

All four occupants in the second vehicle were brought to the hospital. Two were in critical condition, while the other two were listed in serious condition.

Police said two occupants of the third vehicle were also taken to an area hospital but in good condition.

Authorities said the driver of the first vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scene.

Speed, drugs, or alcohol don’t appear to be factors, HPD said.

The crash shut down multiple eastbound lanes of the freeway, snarling traffic in the area.
