Multiple roads temporarily closed amid manhunt for murder suspect on Kauai

WAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Amid a manhunt for a murder suspect, Kauai police had shut down multiple roads in the Wailua Falls area Wednesday morning to conduct a police operation.

Two roads — Maalo Road by Wailua Falls and Kuamoo Road by the Wailua Reservoir — were closed around 6:40 a.m.

Authorities cleared the area and reopened the roads around 9:15 a.m.

It was not immediately clear if the police operation was in connection with the manhunt, but police later confirmed it was connected to their search for murder suspect Chris Santos.

Santos is accused of a deadly shooting that happened Thursday night on Kahili Mountain Road.

KPD says the search for Santos remains ongoing.

If you see Santos, do not approach him. Police said he’s considered armed and dangerous.

Police added that they have received reports of people providing transportation to Santos. Anyone who assists him is subject to prosecution for first-degree hindering prosecution, an offense punishable by up to five years in prison.

The public is advised to use extreme caution and not approach this individual.
