Portion of key road closed after car plows into pole in Salt Lake area
ALIAMANU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A key thoroughfare remains closed Tuesday morning after a car plowed into an utility pole near Salt Lake Shopping Center during the overnight hours.
The crash happened around 12:40 a.m. on Ala Lilikoi Street.
Our HNN photographer on the scene tells us the pole was severed and hanging by wires.
A portion of Salt Lake Boulevard remains closed in both directions between Ala Lilikoi Street and Radford Drive for the next several hours as HECO crews repair the downed pole.
The road closure is snarling the morning commute in the area. School officials tell HNN that the entrance by the Salt Lake Library on Arizona Road is being used to access Aliamanu Middle School.
According to HECO’s outage map, approximately 845 customers were without power but it has since been restored.
The cause of the single-vehicle crash and the extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
An investigation is ongoing.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
