Filmmaker Celine Song is earning high praise from critics for PAST LIVES, her very first feature film. PAST LIVES is a melancholy love story about how the choices we make shape our lives and how, over time, we can feel sad when we think about what might have been. The main character is a woman who came to North America from Korea when she was just12 years old. Now, 24 years later she’s a married playwright in New York City when her unmarried childhood sweetheart comes to visit. PAST LIVES is restrained, well acted, heartfelt drama, a slow paced, touching movie about the kind of sadness we all experience over the roads we didn’t go down. (WARD and KAHALA Theaters) I also want to let you know about IT AIN’T OVER, a superb documentary on Yogi Berra, the great Yankee baseball catcher who won ten Worlds Series rings. It’s showing only at the Koko Marina Theaters through next Wednesday, June 28.
