That’s more money worldwide than any other movie comedy ever made. The film itself is a clever, creative and very funny comic satire capable of entertaining people of all ages. It brings the famous doll to life as a beautiful woman who doesn’t realize that she’s living in a pretend world. That situation creates lots of laughs, but the movie gets both more amusing and more serious when BARBIE enters the real world and is shocked to learn that many women believe she’s their enemy. Filmmaker Greta Gerwig has her cake and eats it too in this smart, wonderfully playful romp. BARBIE is more than just a movie—it’s a phenomenon. (IN THEATERS ONLY)

A war between humans and Artificial Intelligence is at the center of a new science fiction movie called THE CREATOR. John David Washington co-stars with a child actor in a powerful science fiction thriller based on a great concept, namely that in the year 2065 AI simulated humans are morally and intellectually superior to real people. Director Gareth Edwards stirs up strong feelings in spite of his convoluted plot that left me jangled and somewhat confused. Like most sci fi movies about wars of the future, there’s too much fighting and too many explosions, but this filmmaker’s cinematography is is a cut above. And his ideas are provocative. Could it be that someday AI will create replicants who are committed to achieving world peace? (In theaters)
